Manufacturing Engineering – Laser and EDM at Rolls-Royce plc

Job Description

Manufacturing Engineering – Laser and EDM

Indianapolis, IN
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Castbond Manufacturing Engineering team at the Advanced Turbines Center in Indianapolis. We are incorporating cutting-edge technology into the HPT blade for the Trent XWB-97 engine (fitted on the Airbus A350-1000). The Laser and EDM engineer is tasked to develop and implement new laser and EDM processes including tooling design and build, NC programming, new equipment specifications, and new facility installations. Additionally, the position will participate in dFM activities to ensure the best product design and manufacturing capabilities are attained as well as develop the process technical package for production of the HT3 Step 3 blade.

Dream Big and Make an Impact

As part of Manufacturing Engineering – Leaser and EDM (Electrical Discharge Machine) This will contribute to significant reductions in emissions and fuel burn per flight relative to the engine / aircraft combinations it will replace. While the Trent XWB-97 has performed well, durability of HPT components, particularly in arduous middle east environments has led to a low time on wing. The introduction of this technology will deliver a step change in time on wing for these operations and will also enable potential new aircraft opportunities through higher thrust capability (at a fixed time on wing).
