PhD Position in Bioimaging and Fluorescence Spectroscopy

Syddansk Universitet (SDU)

Ph.d. & forskning

A PhD scholarship in bioimaging and fluorescence spectroscopy is available at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Southern Denmark. The position is to be filled by 1 March 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. Application deadline: 2 February 2018.

Outstanding candidates with experience in fluorescence spectroscopy and optical microscopies such as wide field fluorescence, confocal and super resolution microscopy, with an education in physics, biophysics, molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry or similar areas are invited to apply. Knowledge and experience with live cell imaging is an advantage, but can also be acquired during the employment.

The selected candidate will be working as a part of an interdisciplinary team with the goal to develop and characterize the next generation of optical molecular probes for sensing in cellular membranes. The project group offers a unique interdisciplinary combination of computational probe design, synthesis, characterization and biological applications. Within the group we aim to develop optimized fluorescence sensors for time-resolved and super-resolution imaging of cellular membranes and to use these probes to obtain fundamental knowledge of membrane structure and function.

The successful applicant will be responsible for characterizing newly developed probes by combining bioimaging, biophysics and spectroscopy to quantify the photophysical properties of optical molecular probes for sensing in cellular membranes as well as applying the probes in model and biological systems.
