Master Thesis on Mobile Robots: RL and autonomous driving in off-road terrain hos Capra Robotics ApS

Capra Robotics creates mobile robotic platforms especially suited for outdoor or outdoor/indoor use. Our Vision is "To Create Mobile Robots That Help People Everywhere". Our solution allows our customers to focus on their specific application providing them with a better business case.

Our robots have excellent off-road capabilities, due to its flexible design and 4WD power train. But driving the robot off-road gives rise to a number of new problems relating to where it’s safe for the robot to drive in the terrain.

This is considered a quite hard problem, but with the progress of AI in the last decade, there could be a new approach to helping the robot evaluate the terrain and where to drive with a DNN setup.

Inspired by the work done at BAIR (, we suggest a thesis, where a RL network is added to a robot, with additional input from a camera. And this network is trained to evaluate terrain for driving with the Capra robot. Here, the system is trained using real-life and simulated data.

All needed equipment will be made available.
