The saliva microbiome in health and disease hos Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research

Background: The gastrointestinal microbiome plays fundamental roles in the human health. It can be considered as a newly identified organ that interacts with other organs and influences the development of disease. Until now the saliva microbiome has not been studied to the same extend as the gastrointestinal microbiome.

The project: Exploring (through literature and data analyses) the role of the saliva microbiome in health and disease and its interaction with the host genome, i.e. the persons own genes. The study will make use of already collected data in already established cohorts with focus on pre-diabetes.

The student: We are looking for skilled bachelor or Master’s students who are enthusiastic about research, and have the ability to quickly learn and work independently with data analyses and with literature based research.
